Grading
Generally speaking, capstone projects should, in all relevant ways:
- exemplify the learning objectives;
- demonstrate the skills expected of a graduate;
- make appropriate trade-offs and judgments; and
- not suffer serious oversights.
A central premise is that the software should perform its intended function properly and in a unified way.
Here’s how points convert to letter grades. The Points column is the minimum for the grade: 93 points or more earns an A, strictly less than 60 points is an F.

| C- | 70 | adequacy on several learning objectives, with serious oversights |
| D+ | 67 | significant shortcomings on learning objectives |
| D | 60 | significant shortcomings in learning objectives, major oversights |
| F | < 60 | unethical, unprofessional, incomplete, etc. |
The wording is deliberate: every letter is defined against the learning objectives, not against effort or volume. A project that consumed a term of work and demonstrates adequacy on most objectives is a C, and a smaller project that demonstrates mastery on all of them is an A.
Learning Outcome Tags
Section titled “Learning Outcome Tags”Each rubric criterion in the assignments section carries a tag: SO1 through SO6 for the ABET student outcomes, L07 through L09 for WIC, and L10 for Beyond OSU.
The tags exist for accreditation traceability and change nothing about how you complete the work. They are verified in CI against each page’s rubric table and against the coverage minimums, so a criterion cannot claim an outcome the frontmatter does not declare. The outcome mapping shows where every outcome is evidenced.
